TJR does is again, book buddies! I was *so* totally sucked into this novel - the story, the characters, the settting(!!!). And now that I'm done reading, I can not wait for everyone to pick it up this summer.  "Malibu Rising" by Taylor Jenkins Reid is an unputdownable family story that yes, will be the perfect beachy read for the season. But it's also the perfect cuddled under blankets, or on the subway, or with your morning cup of coffee read. Because however you read, I definitely recommend you pick this one up.

There are several swoon worthy love stories in "Malibu Rising", but they are also just the right amount of complicated to make the relationships between each character feel real enough to keep the pages turning. There are love triangles and so many heartbreaks, plus some pretty great twists as well!

Trigger warning ahead readers, because "Malibu Rising" takes a hard look at some incredibly difficult topics. Alcoholism, as well as parental loss, and also how they each effect families, but especially children. This book was heartbreaking but also felt incredibly real - the drama the characters experienced didn't feel unrealistically heightened just for the sake of the story. While "Malibu Rising"certainly isn't "gritty", the author also doesn't romanticize addiction, abandonment, or loss.

I think every TJR book could become an awesome movie, but this one just felt like cinematic the whole way through. Maybe it was the plot set up of a party, which speaks to my 90's girl high school house party romantic comedy heart. And there were so many good one liners delivered that just screamed movie trailer to me!
